Docket Alarm Wins Product Innovation Competition at LegalWeek

Momentum Builds As Analytics Opportunities Increase for U.S. Law Firms

Washington, DC (February 4, 2019) – Docket Alarm by Fastcase, a leader in litigation analytics and docket research, was named the Judges’ Choice for the Product Innovation Award at New York Legalweek. The award recognizes creative excellence and innovation in the legal industry and is announced during American Lawyer Media’s week-long legal industry event.

Docket Alarm’s new Analytics Workbench is defining a new category in legal analytics. While other legal analytic services provide pre-defined analytics built by others, the Analytics Workbench is the first to allow users to generate their own custom-defined analytics, using their specific facts and their own judgment, and apply those analytics to any court in Docket Alarm’s database, including state courts.

Analytics Workbench empowers, lawyers, librarians and other law firm “makers” to create their own reports across Docket Alarm’s entire 250 million record (and growing) dataset. Users can capture and analyze legal events that remain hidden in traditional offerings – such as revealing trends about discovery motions, motions in limine, scheduling and pre-trial conferences, at both the state and federal level, that would be impossible for traditional, read-only analytics.

Docket Alarm continues to be a disruptor in the legal marketplace. Since being acquired by Fastcase in 2018, the company has expanded its coverage to 16 state courts and 250 million legal documents. In addition to coverage of administrative courts and the entire federal court system via PACER, Docket Alarm also incorporates analytics in the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (“TTAB”).

Docket Alarm is a research database that lives alongside Fastcase, enhancing the research experience. Its unparalleled database allows users to search millions of lawsuits, track cases on any device, and analyze outcomes for competitive advantage. Litigators, law firm “makers,” librarians, and litigation support professionals now have access to an unrivaled database to build their own bespoke litigation analytics across any court, practice area, or litigation event. Accessing Docket Alarm’s database and the Analytics Workbench tool in conjunction with the Fastcase legal research library which includes exclusive integrated products such as such as Full Court Press publications, artificial intelligence tools within the AI Sandbox, and access to licensed secondary materials through James Publishing and Wolters Kluwer/Aspen/CCH, affords legal researchers with extended capabilities and more access to legal data for creating custom analytics.

Erin Hichman, a Senior Analyst with ALM Intelligence, described the 2019 Legaltech Product Innovation Competition in a recent interview with Inside Legal: “The legal technology market and landscape is changing so quickly – and is becoming crowded,” she said. “We decided to launch the Product Innovation Competition this year at Legaltech to provide a platform for those that are using technology to improve the legal industry and approach traditional challenges and goals in a new way.”

Twenty-five products were nominated for the award, which was narrowed to seven in advance of Legalweek. The team of judges evaluated the finalists based on the following criteria: 1. Is the solution distinctive or fundamentally different from existing products? 2. Does the solution enhance efficiency and/or productivity? 3. Is there a clear market need? 4. Design 5. Functionality, and 6. Applicability.

“We are thrilled to win Legalweek’s Product Innovation award,” said Docket Alarm Founder and Managing Director Michael Sander. “We have some really great ideas in the pipeline, and we work diligently to bring these creative tools to the legal analytics marketplace, so it’s rewarding to be recognized with one of the legal industry’s most prominent awards.”

Docket Alarm continues to grow in popularity among today’s law firms, with a growing number of AmLaw 250 firms using Docket Alarm for litigation management and legal analytics. For a free trial and more information, visit www.docketalarm.com.
