Jason Barnwell has been a nationwide leader in promoting better process and measuring the quality of legal services, both inside his corporate legal department and with outside counsel. As the leader of Microsoft’s Legal, Business, Operations and Strategy team, Jason has leveraged his background in software development (he has a degree in Science and Engineering from MIT, as well as a law degree), but he does not believe that software can solve every problem. “It’s not necessarily going to require a bunch of big shiny AI robots,” he has said. “It always starts with the human side — machines don’t understand what we’re really trying to get done here.
